Alyson Kelly is an undergraduate student at the University of Pittsburgh in her third year of her studies. She is working to obtain a bachelor's degree in linguistics and the French language. As a full-time student with a part-time job, Alyson is fully aware of the stress that exists in her own life as well as in the lives of other students on campus. In addition, Alyson is currently seeing a therapist on a biweekly basis and taking antidepressants on a daily basis for major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder, which she developed when she was in middle school. Because of this personal experience, Alyson is responsible for writing the portion of our blog that is dedicated to the increase of depression on college campuses as a response to the increase in stress.

Who we are

Learn to LOVE our authors!

As students at the University of Pittsburgh, Alyson, Bridget and Allison have a great personal stake in seeing their classmates at other universities around the nation perform to the best of their ability. The problems surrounding collegiate stress are familiar ones to the authors, and they are here to inform others and advocate for a change!

Bridget Cassidy

Bridget Cassidy is a sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh majoring in English Writing and minoring in Literature. She has seen the cost of education on students' mental health first hand, witnessing many people putting their classwork before themselves. Bridget herself has had many nights where she did not sleep in order to study for a test or finish a paper. Because of this, she is currently using sleep aids to get her sleep schedule back on track, which was recommended to her by friends who are doing the same thing. What she has noticed with her nightly crowd, or her classmates and peers in general, is that they are all stressed out. None of them are free from the pressure that school and parents put on students to do well and get a great job. Bridget is responsible for the stress portion of the site.

Allison Bradley

Allison Bradley is in her second year at the University of Pittsburgh double majoring in Psychology and Communication and working towards receiving a certificate in Public and Professional Writing. Allison is very involved on campus between her studies and her extra curicular activities, and knows exactly how it feels to be overwhelmed and under pressure. Even when she has plenty of assignments to do and exams to cram for, Allison often finds herself easily distracted by the enviroment, social media, or just thoughts of how much she has to get done. She knows that other students feel the same way, but recently has noticed that some students turn to alternative methods, such as using "study drugs," to get their work done. While Allison is not personally taking medication, she is aware that others use Adderall to enhance their ability to perform in school and to ease the anxiety of getting assignments done. The rise in the use of Adderall, both medically and nonmedically, is a very intriguing topic for Allison, and she has researched it thoroughly. Thus, she will be writing the anxiety proportion of this page.
